Is there spinach in your teeth?
“We all need someone in our life that (KNOWS us) and (can NO us).” I’ve heard my pastors say this many times. This thought has been heavy on my heart this week.
I want to teach my kids not only to be accountable for their actions but to know how to take discipline gracefully. Lately my girls have been rolling their eyes when I tell them something. Yes, they have attitudes (they are human). I’ve started asking them to stop and consider if what I’m telling them is for their good or just for nothing? They usually respond, “It’s for their good.”
I’ll admit I’m not trying to be the first one in line for a good “talking to” but I need it often. I need to have someone in my life who can be my mirror and let me know when I have “spinach in my teeth” so to speak. No one likes walking around with spinach in their teeth but it’s also embarrassing to have someone point it out.
I don’t mean someone you respect like a pastor or teacher that don’t really know you or your family personally. I mean someone who really knows you. They know your strengths and weaknesses. Someone who cares enough about you being a good person that they are welling to challenge you.
I have a few people in my world that the buck stops with them. One of those people is my husband. There are a few others. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t always respond gracefully but that’s the goal.

I hope this encourages you to never stop stretching and growing in wisdom. We can all be better. We just have to want to. Parents don’t be afraid of healthy discipline in your family. It’s needed for your children to be who God has called them to be.
